Charity Update – Africa
FuelQuip Ltd is keen to provide a personal and hands-on contribution to create a positive social change to some of the poorest communities in Africa. That is why FuelQuip is sponsoring Anthony Preston to volunteer his time and services in a rural village in Northwest Kenya.
Families in desperate need of medical attention will be supported by Anthony at health centres in Kitale. Despite having minimal resources, his I.C.T skills will be invaluable to the trainee doctors and nurses at the Nzoia College of Nursing as he trains and educates them on basic computer usage.
Anthony commented,
“I intend to dramatically improve the health care at the centres here in Kitale and potentially save lives year after year. I will work closely with the students from the College to create a computer based system which will electronically record patients’ details accurately. By training the students to keep the system up-to-date, hopefully this will improve the accessibility of vital information. The database should enable the correct and necessary treatments to be administered quicker to critical medical conditions.”
Earlier this year Anthony flew to Kenya on a 3 month placement and is working closely with Sister Freda Robinson, the founder of the Nzoia College of Nursing. The program has been offering medical care to the poor of Kenya for nearly a decade which simultaneously trains the young men and women of Kitale on how to provide medical care as well as teaching basic survival skills for their communities.
